After many years of downhill skiing it was time to try something new in the realm of winter sports. So my good mate Danny Bell organised a trip to Finland where we learnt to cross-country ski in a true winter wonderland. It is now one of my favourite sports, combining my love of the outdoors and grunt cardio, but also low impact for someone like myself who has abused my body over the years. The town of Messila, not far from Lahti and an hour north of Helsinki, was also the coldest place I’d ever visited – it got down to -25 degrees celsius.
