The American Birkebeiner is a famous cross country ski race that has been on the bucket list for a few years after experiencing nordic cross-country skiing in Finland and wanting to explore new grounds. It’s the biggest race in North America and hosted in Hayward, Wisconsin. Myself, Richie Bray (a Pissfit Tours Founding Member) and fellow Aussies living in Chicago Andrew Brazier and David Hayden all made our way to the middle of nowhere in -23 degrees celsius with minimal training and gave this 55km race a crack.
Check out the shots we had to do toward the end of the race – they helped us through for sure!
Nordic Ski Dork – Pre-race we hung out in the finishers tent where it was Zero Degrees Celsius, balmy compared to outside.
Richie doesn’t look cold, but he was on his way to frostbitten fingertips.
