The Emerald Necklace Ultra

The Emerald Necklace is a “3 day stage 80 mile ultra trail running race” around the SRK Greenway (www.srkg.com) in New Hampshire in the New England region of the USA. I was not able to train for it properly in the lead up to the race, mainly because Manhattan has no trails and now real elevation. So I was left with running up and down endless sets of stairs on The Highline (www.thehighline.org) on the West Side – this training plan seemed to work a treat as I came second overall.

It was a very tough race due to the terrain and elevation but a fun experience in some great New England wilderness. I ran with my good ultra buddy Rick Baraff which made it heaps of fun. The results was Rick winning the race, with me coming a close second only a minute behind him.
